Inspired partly by Bruce Springsteen’s classic track The Ghost of Tom Joad (a modern take on Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath) but mainly by Ken Burns’ stunning PBS documentary The Dust Bowl, we followed Route 66 through Oklahoma in the summer of 2013, before heading north to explore No Man’s Land (the Oklahoma panhandle), the area worst affected by the man-made disaster that was the the 1930s dust bowl. Carole made this video on our drive along US Route 64 from Boise City towards Guymon:
